This is the only debit card in New Zealand that earns Airpoints Dollars™, rewarding you for your everyday spending*. Use it like an EFTPOS card as well as online, over the phone and overseas while you’re protected 24/7^ against fraudulent activity with CardGuardTM. We’ll also sign you up to Westpac One®, our award-winning online banking service.
An Airpoints Debit Mastercard can be used just like an ordinary EFTPOS card, but with some important added benefits. For a start, you’ll earn Airpoints on your everyday purchases*. And you can use it anywhere Mastercard is accepted, online, over the phone, and overseas. An Airpoints Debit Mastercard also comes with the added protection of CardGuard™.
An Airpoints Debit Mastercard complements your Airpoints credit card. If you have both cards, you’ll be making the most of earning Airpoints Dollars on all your spending*.
To apply for a debit card, you must be 15 years or older. For customers under 18 years old, a parent or guardian must complete a section of the application form and sign to accept the terms and conditions in person at a Westpac branch. If you're under 18, give us a call to make an appointment at your nearest branch.
You can withdraw up to $800 at a time from an ATM. To get more cash, make two or more withdrawals. (This limit is in place because the machines can't actually dispense more than 40 notes at once).
This is to ensure no one can fraudulently empty your account if they discover your PIN number. This includes weekends and holidays.
We also limit your total EFTPOS spending and ATM withdrawals in one day to $10,000. If you've used a Gold, Business or Premium credit card for your EFTPOS purchase your daily limit may be higher. The limit will be dropped a few minutes after midnight.
How can I get around this limit?
The daily limit is in place to protect against fraud, and we cannot switch it off for you.
However, the limit applies to your card rather than your account. So if it's a joint account and the other account holder has their own card, you could ask for their help to double your limit.
