What changed?

New legislation requires that we reduce some of the fees we charge retailers and other businesses for accepting credit and debit card payments. These fees help to pay for your Westpac Airpoints credit and debit card rewards which is why we changed how you earn Airpoints Dollarsᵀᴹ.

These changes took effect automatically on 1 February 2023. At the start of each month*, the earn rate tiers, for Westpac Airpoints credit cards, will reset. 

We did not make any changes to the earn rate of the Westpac Airpointsᵀᴹ Business Mastercard®.

1 Airpoints Dollars will be earned at the rates specified and published by us from time to time on our website at westpac.co.nz/airpoints. Airpoints Dollar tiers and earn rates, as applicable, are subject to change.

Certain purchases and transactions do not earn Airpoints Dollars (See the Debit Card Conditions of Use for full details), including; fees, charges or interest, tax payments (including local council rates and ACC Levies), gambling chips or gambling transactions (including online gambling), cash withdrawals from your account, money orders, travellers cheques and foreign currencies in cash, and business-related purchases.  

3 Certain purchases and transactions do not earn Airpoints Dollars or Status Points, as applicable (see the applicable Credit Card Conditions of Use for full details), including: fees, charges or interest, balance transfers, credit card repayment insurance, tax payments (including local council rates and ACC Levies), gambling chips or gambling transactions (including online gambling), cash withdrawals from your account, money orders, travellers cheques and foreign currencies in cash, business-related purchases made with a Westpac Airpoints credit card other than a Westpac Airpoints Business Mastercard and transactions on any nominated account(s) linked to your Westpac Airpoints credit card.
