FAQs

As of June 12, 2018, we renamed the Electronic account to Westpac Everyday, and changed some of its features. You can see those changes on our Legal Statements page.

Like an EFTPOS card, a debit card links to one of your transaction accounts – so when you use it, you’re spending money that’s in your account.
And a debit card has some other added benefits: you can use it online, over the phone and overseas – anywhere you can use a credit card. All of our debit cards also come with the added protection of CardGuard™.
Finally, having a debit card gives you the option of our Airpoints™ Debit Mastercard®, where you’ll earn Airpoints on your everyday purchases 5. An annual card fee is charged for a debit card, whilst an EFTPOS card does not have an annual fee.

Absolutely. While we no longer automatically issue cheque books with new accounts, just give us a call on 0800 400 600 and we can set you up with one. We will need to check your identity before we can send one out, so have a form of ID handy.

Yes, you can access many banking services through phone banking, such as checking your balance, transferring money between accounts, and paying bills. Just call 0800 172 172, or +64 4 915 6666 from overseas. Learn more about phone banking.

Yes, if you already have a Westpac debit card, you can link it to your new Westpac account. Eligible accounts include Westpac Everyday, Choices Everyday Home Loan Account, Business Transact Account, and Business Interest Account.
