Simply apply on our website to open a new card account. We’ll help you through the steps to make your transfer as easy as possible including a balance transfer option for moving any outstanding balance you may have over to Westpac so you can close your current card account.

Once you’ve been approved for a Westpac Airpoints credit card, it should be with you within 10 business days. Depending on your circumstances, you may need to visit a Westpac branch to load a secure PIN and verify your identity, address and income.

You can use Westpac One online banking to apply to open a new credit account or apply to transfer your existing card here. Make sure you redeem your hotpoints as soon as possible as they’ll expire 10 business days from the date you apply to close your hotpoints credit card account or apply to switch to a non hotpoints Westpac credit card, such as an Airpoints credit card.
Once you apply to cancel your hotpoints credit card or your application to transfer to an alternative Westpac credit card has been submitted, you will not be able to do the following during the ten business day expiry period:

Your hotpoints will expire 10 business days after you submit your application to transfer to an Airpoints™ credit card. You can redeem your hotpoints online before transferring2. Or, once you have submitted your application to transfer to an Airpoints credit card, you can explore your reward options at hotpoints.co.nz and check your hotpoints balance or redeem your hotpoints by calling 0800 861 862 (Mon-Fri, 8.30am to 5pm). If you’d like to continue earning hotpoints rewards, you can open an Airpoints credit card account and have both!

No, Airpoints Dollars can only be earned on purchases. Cash advances and balance transfers are excluded from earning Airpoints Dollars1.

We'll help you through the steps to make your application as easy as possible including a balance transfer option for moving any outstanding balance you may have with another provider over to Westpac so you can close your current credit card account.
If this is a new credit card, then yes, you’ll need to arrange a new direct debit for your new card by completing a direct debit application, which you can download here or pick up at any Westpac branch.
If you are transferring into a Westpac Airpoints Mastercard from another Westpac credit card, we will automatically transfer any existing direct debit arrangement to your new Westpac Airpoints Mastercard.
In both instances however, please remember to change over any subscription services you may have (such as iTunes) and regular payments (e.g. your power company, telecommunications or public transport provider) - to your new card.
These payment arrangements are agreements between yourself and the payee. To continue this payment arrangement you’ll need to advise these payees of your new credit card number and expiry date.
No. You may wish to open a transaction and/or savings account with Westpac to consolidate your banking all in one place, but it’s not a requirement.

You'll pay the standard purchase interest rate on any new purchases you make with your card since purchases made do not qualify for the 5.95% p.a. rate. The 5.95% p.a. rate only applies to transferred balances until you have paid off that debt. It’s important to note that all credit card repayments you make will first go to charges and interest accrued, then to cash advances and purchases, followed by balance transfers. This means any balance transfer amount won't start being paid off until any cash advances or purchases made on your card have been paid in full. Unfortunately you are unable to convert hotpoints to Airpoints Dollars. You’re welcome to transfer your hotpoints credit card to a Westpac Airpoints credit card, but make sure you redeem your hotpoints online before you do (they expire 10 business days from the date you apply to transfer an Airpoints credit card). Once you transfer, you will need to call hotpoints on 0800 861 862 to check your hotpoints balance or make a redemption.
Westpac Airpoints credit cards are exclusively issued by Mastercard.
Airpoints Dollars are associated with your Air New Zealand Airpoints account. So any Airpoints Dollars earned using another bank's credit card will be credited to that Airpoints account, as will Airpoints Dollars earned on your Westpac credit card. Select a new PIN by taking your card into one of our branches, with an appropriate form of ID (here’s a list of ID types that will work).
Westpac's Airpoints credit cards will be accepted everywhere Mastercard is accepted around the world, similar to Visa and more than American Express.
Every time you make a purchase on your Westpac Airpoints™ credit card in store or online you could be earning Airpoints Dollars. You’ll earn Airpoints Dollars on eligible purchases at the specified earn rate of your Westpac Airpoints credit card.
Airpoints Dollars are not earned on fees or interest, balance transfers, credit card repayment insurance; purchases of Airpoints Dollars using Airpoints Advance facilities; gambling chips; cash advances or withdrawals made from ATMs or over the counter at a bank; the purchase of money orders, travellers cheques or foreign currencies, in cash; any transaction that is reversed, refunded or charged back; transactions on any nominated account(s) linked to your Westpac Airpoints credit card; and business-related purchases made with a Westpac Airpoints credit card other than a Westpac Airpoints Business MasterCard.

Each month your Airpoints update will be emailed to you by Air New Zealand, and you’ll see how many Airpoints Dollars you’ve earned throughout the month as well as your total Airpoints balance. You can also check in on your Airpoints tally regularly by logging in on the Air New Zealand website, or through the Air NZ mobile app.
