Where can I use my Prepaid card?

How to get one?

 You can buy a Prepaid card from any Westpac branch (it costs $20), and you don't need to be a Westpac customer to get one.

You'll need to bring:

If you're between the ages of 13 and 17, you'll also need a parent or guardian to sign your application.

How to use it

Load your card

Load your card with your chosen amount of money (minimum first deposit of $50), and load a PIN number.

Top it up

Top up/reload your card using Westpac One online banking or phone banking (if you're an existing customer), Westpac ATMs, or at a Westpac branch**.

Using it

When you use your prepaid card in store or at an ATM, select the 'credit' button.

More about Prepaid cards

Your card will expire on the date printed on its front. If you have an unused balance, you can either transfer it to a replacement card ($20 fee) or we will refund you the balance.

At a branch
You can top up your Prepaid at any Westpac branch the cost is $3.

Simply take in your card, and top up the balance with cash or another debit or credit card.

Online
You can view your card balance and top it up using Westpac One online banking. 

To get your Prepaid card to show in your online banking profile, call us on 0800 888 111. 

Once the card is showing you can simply transfer money from your bank account to your Prepaid card, using the prompts.

If your card isn't showing, you can still transfer money to it by following these steps:

  • Login to Westpac One and click on 'Transfer money/pay anyone'
  • Select 'Set up and save someone to new pay online' and enter the Prepaid card as a 'Westpac Visa'
  • Follow the rest of the instructions to complete the set-up and transfer

On Visa, Mastercard and our Prepaid cards, you'll find the 3 security code on the back of your card.

*The NZ$3 international transaction fee saving applies to use of Westpac Visa at ATMs belonging to any member of the Global ATM Alliance and is subject to change. Global ATM Alliance member banks are subject to change. All other international and standard fees apply, including foreign currency conversion fees refer to the Transaction and Service Fees brochure for details.

** There is a $1.00 charge for an electronic load, and $3.00 charge for a manual load at ATMs and in branch.

NOTE: whenever you use your Westpac Prepaid card to withdraw money from overseas ATMs your transactions will incur a foreign currency conversion fee. This is currently 2.5% of the New Zealand converted value of the foreign currency transaction amount. The currency conversion fee will be displayed on your statement.
