The information you need to apply for a home loan

To make applying for a home loan as quick as possible, it's helpful to have some specific information to hand before you start.

When you’re applying for a home loan

Whether you’re applying for a home loan online or in a branch, you’ll need to have this information to hand:

  • details of your annual income, including any overtime and commission.
  • details of your debts and expenses, such as credit cards and other loans.
  • if you've already made an offer, any details on the property you have in mind.

After you have applied for a home loan

After you have applied for a home loan online (or if you are going into a branch to apply), we'll need to see documentation to support you application. Examples of the supporting documents we may need to see are:

  • current payslips or other evidence of your annual income
  • copies of bank statements or related items
  • confirmation of your deposit
  • a copy of the Sale and Purchase Agreement, if applicable
  • a copy of a registered valuation(s) from a registered valuer

  • if you’re self-employed, the latest full year of your financial accounts prepared by your chartered accountant or your recent income assessment from the IRD
  • if you’re switching your home loan to Westpac, you’re current home loan amount and the current capital value of your home (if you know what it is).
