With a focus on reducing emissions and raising stress free cows, Ben and Sarah Troughton’s dairy farming philosophy is resulting in a better product and a better New Zealand.
Walking through the field, the cows do not run in fear, but rather stroll on over to say hi. Ben says this is because there are no quad bikes or dogs on the farm, meaning they don’t have anything startling them.
A batt-latch means that the cows can walk to the feed pad in the morning in their own time, which Sarah says takes the stress off both the staff and the cows.
Other cool things the Troughtons are doing is recycling everything they possibly can, creating their own high quality compost, and using water saving equipment.
