Active and sustainable investment management.

Westpac's dedicated investment arm, BT Funds Management (NZ) Limited (BTNZ), manages our investment funds.

BTNZ's approach to managing investment funds includes:

  • Using specialist investment managers who understand their markets
  • Having an investment committee to approve and review all its managers
  • How we invest sustainably, taking into account environmental, social and governance factors
  • Keeping fees low
  • Making the most of its buying power.

Specialist fund managers

BTNZ uses specialist investment managers - each one is an expert in their asset class.

Here in New Zealand, BTNZ has full-time experts who take care of its New Zealand cash and local bonds. Then it has specialist investment managers based all over the world, giving it on-the-ground local knowledge of global markets.

Whether investing in mature markets such as Europe and the US, or emerging ones, such as Taiwan and Brazil, BTNZ investment managers find opportunities that might not be available to investors in New Zealand. And it believes its multi-manager approach delivers a more consistent performance for its investors than using a single manager.

BTNZ's investment committee approves all new managers and strategies

All investment managers and investment strategies are approved by the BTNZ investment committee. Each investment manager and strategy is comprehensively researched before selection, and once in place this is continually monitored and reviewed.

Sustainable Investment Policy

All investment managers are required to be aware of, and observe BTNZ's Sustainable Investment Policy. It sets out BTNZ's commitments to climate change, and other positive outcomes BTNZ is working to invest more in, BTNZ's stewardship approach and exclusions. BTNZ believes that businesses operating in a sustainable way are more likely to outlast and outperform their less sustainable competitors.

Low fees for investors

BTNZ’s fees are competitive. Learn more about fees and charges for KiwiSaver or see the Active Series fees in the Product Disclosure Statement.

Harnessing our buying power

BTNZ has more than $15 billion in funds under management. That gives Westpac investors access to investment opportunities that smaller New Zealand funds don't have. That's an advantage when it comes to negotiating better deals and opportunities for our funds.
