Making things simpler for you.
Your EFTPOS card will close soon. To learn more about this change, see our FAQs.
1. Why are you closing my EFTPOS card?
As you haven’t used your EFTPOS card in the last 12 months, it will be closed from the date shown in the communications we recently sent to you.
2. Do I need to cancel my EFTPOS card myself?
No, there’s nothing you need to do. Your EFTPOS card will be automatically closed from the date shown in the communications we recently sent to you.
3. Will my bank account also be closed?
No, there will be no changes to any of your bank accounts. Only your EFTPOS card will be closed.
4. Will I lose access to my account?
Access to your account through Westpac One® digital banking will not be affected. You’ll be able to make transactions, such as transfers and bill payments, even without an EFTPOS card.
If you would like a card to access your account, you can apply for a Debit Mastercard through Westpac One. A Debit Mastercard can be used for everyday purchases wherever Mastercard is accepted, including online and contactless payments.
5. Will this affect my direct debits or automatic payments?
No, your direct debits and automatic payments won’t be affected. These are linked to your account, so they’ll continue as usual even after your EFTPOS card is closed.
6. What should I do if I want to keep card access to my account?
If you don’t already have one, you can apply for a Debit Mastercard through Westpac One. A Debit card is a secure way to pay with your own money, just like an EFTPOS card. Plus, you can use Westpac One to turn on and off contactless, online and phone payments, temporarily block your card and change your PIN.
If you don’t want your EFTPOS card closed, simply use it to make a payment or withdraw cash before the date shown in the communications we sent to you recently.
7. How can I avoid card payment surcharges when paying with a debit card?
Some retailers may add a card payment surcharge on top of the purchase price when customers make a contactless payment with a debit card. To avoid paying a card payment surcharge, make sure you insert your debit card into the payment terminal when paying in-store.
You can also choose to permanently turn off contactless payments on your card. Just go to the Cards section in Westpac One, choose your card, and toggle the Contactless payments button to off.
8. How do I keep my EFTPOS card if it’s past the closure date?
If your EFTPOS card has been closed, and you need a card to access your account, you can apply for a Debit Mastercard through Westpac One. A Debit card is a secure way to pay with your own money, just like an EFTPOS card. Plus, you can use Westpac One to turn on and off contactless, online and phone payments, temporarily block your card and change your PIN.
