How we use behavioural biometrics.
Information we collect to help keep you safe.
This includes patterns on how you use your device, such as how you:
- typically type or tap
- scroll or move through screens
- navigate within the app or website.
We also collect device and connection information, including:
- your device type and operating system
- the names of other apps installed on your device
- network and connectivity details (such as your IP address).
What we don’t collect.
When using Westpac One, Westpac does not:
- collect physical biometric data like fingerprints or facial images
- monitor what you do on other apps or websites
- see what you’re typing, read your messages, or access your photos
- access your camera or microphone.
Why we collect this information.
We use the information we collect to help protect you from fraud, scams, and unauthorised use of your accounts.
It helps us:
- detect activity that may be inconsistent with normal use
- identify suspicious activity, including where someone may be attempting to access your account without your permission
- assess risk and support action to protect your accounts and transactions, including continuing to improve how we detect and prevent fraud.
For example, this may include taking steps to prevent or investigate potentially fraudulent activity.
We only use this information for fraud prevention and protection purposes.
We do not use it for marketing or to assess your eligibility for products or services.
Is this information required to use Westpac One?
Providing this information is necessary if you want to use Westpac One mobile or online banking.
Without it, you won’t be able to use Westpac One, including logging in, making payments, or managing your accounts.
You can still manage your banking in other ways:

Who collects and holds your information.
Westpac New Zealand Limited collects and holds this information.
We use a specialist security partner to help provide this technology. Any information shared with them is deidentified, encrypted and securely stored. They act on our instructions only and are not able to use the information for their own purposes or to identify you.
How long we store this information.
We keep this information only for as long as it is needed to support fraud detection and prevention, and to meet our legal obligations.
