How do I make an overseas payment?
You can make overseas payments (telegraphic transfers) in Westpac One® digital banking. Here’s how:
- If using Westpac One app, select 'Pay & Transfer' from the bottom navigation and select 'Overseas payment'. Or, if using Westpac One online, select 'Pay & Transfer' from the side navigation.
- Select the account you wish to pay 'From'.
- Select the 'To' field and select 'New or Overseas'.
- Click the 'Pay to' drop down and select 'Overseas account number'.
- Click the 'Send payment to' drop down and select the country.
- Click the 'Send currency' drop down and select the correct currency for the payment.
- Follow the onscreen instructions. Each receiving country may have different requirements.
- You will be provided a summary of the payment and once confirmed, you will be presented the final foreign currency rate and there is an optional email confirmation.

Please note: Rates are only available between 8am Monday morning until 9am Saturday morning. Outside these hours we are unable to provide a conversion rate so we can’t process your international payment.
There are some countries that block TXT messages from New Zealand, so if you haven’t received a TXT message from us within 5 minutes, you’ll need to phone the Westpac Contact Centre directly on +64 9 912 8000 (international toll charges apply). We’re available weekdays from 7.00am to 8.00pm and weekends from 8.00am to 5.00pm NZT.
Keep up to date with scams, make sure you trust the person you are paying and double check their details before you make an overseas payment as the Confirmation of Payee service doesn’t check overseas payments.
