Now that there's a simpler way to pay for public transport, get ready for Cashback Wednesdays. Use your Westpac debit or credit Mastercard to tap on and off Auckland public transport on any Wednesday in March, and you’ll get your daily fare back, up to $10*.

Here's how it works

To claim up to $10 cashback, the next time you travel on a Wednesday this March by bus, train or most ferries^ in Auckland, simply tap on and off with your Westpac debit or credit Mastercard on the reader, just like you would with an AT HOP card. The fare is the same price as an adult HOP fare, and there's no surcharge for using your card. Just make sure you always use the same physical card or smart device to tap on and off.

Here's how to get the offer

Cashback Wednesdays is available every Wednesday throughout March 2025. Any travel on public transport in Auckland outside this time will not be eligible for the cashback offer. So, if you're planning to take public transport on Wednesday, remember to use your Westpac Mastercard when you go.

Which card can I use to get the cashback?

Your physical or digital version of your Westpac debit or credit Mastercard are the only cards that can be used for Cashback Wednesdays.

Can I use my EFTPOS card?

No, your Westpac debit or credit Mastercard is the only eligible card that can be used to tap on and off public transport.

Do I need to register my card or will it work automatically?

As long as you use an eligible Westpac Mastercard to tap on and off on any Wednesday in March, there’s nothing else you need to do! The cashback offer will apply automatically.

What if I use my AT HOP card or top up online for travel on a Wednesday, can I still get the cashback?

No, the cashback offer only applies to fares paid by tapping on and off with a Westpac debit or credit Mastercard on Wednesdays in March 2025.

Why haven’t I received my money yet?

If you haven't received your cashback yet, it could be that the wrong card was used, or that you didn't travel on a Wednesday. Otherwise, it could be a timing delay, but it's likely that the cashback is on its way to your account.

How long does it take to get the cashback in my account?

We aim to get it to you as quickly as possible within ten business days from each Wednesday in March.

How much is the fare if I use my Westpac debit or credit Mastercard?

You'll pay the same fare as an adult AT HOP card fare. There’s no surcharge for using your card, which means it's simply an easier, more secure and efficient way to pay. If you have student or other concession pricing, it doesn’t apply when you use your Westpac Mastercard, but you’ll still get the cashback offer anyway.

What happens if my travel amounts to more than $10 on Wednesday?

We will credit you back up to $10 each Wednesday in March, so any fares over $10 will receive $10 cashback. If your daily fare is less than $10, you’ll get back the entire amount of your daily fare, which essentially means free travel for that day!

What if I’m not a Westpac customer?

Can I get the cashback if I take public transport outside of Auckland?

No, the Cashback Wednesdays offer is only available on Auckland Transport buses, trains and ferries.

What kind of travel is included with this offer?

You can tap on and off for most trips on Auckland public transport, including buses, trains and most ferries^. 

What if I take multiple trips in a day?

It doesn’t matter how many trips you take on a Wednesday, each fare will accumulate towards your total daily fare. So, if three trips on three different modes of transport on Wednesday have a total value of over $10, you’ll get the full $10 cashback.

Will this offer be available every March?

This offer is only available for March 2025, but there are plenty of great reasons to keep using your Westpac Mastercard to tap on and off.
