Apple Pay is a mobile payment and digital wallet service provided by Apple that allows users to make payments in person, in iOS apps, and online.

It can be used across eligible Apple devices including the iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad and Mac.

You can update your mobile phone number through any of the 3 options:

  • In Westpac One online banking – the Online Guardian 30 day period applies.
  • By calling the Contact Centre on 0800 WESTPAC
  • Find your nearest local Westpac Branch.

Note: updating mobile number in-Branch or with Contact Centre will be effective immediately.

On your iPhone, go to Settings / General / Software Update. It should give you a reminder if you don't have the latest iOS update.

Yes! You can load the same card onto multiple devices.

Set up iPhone

  1. Open the Wallet app, tap the “+” sign in the upper-right corner and follow the promptsWallet
  2. Tap next, read and agree to the terms & conditions
  3. For security reasons, we may send you a verification code via SMS when adding your Westpac card to Apple Pay

Set up Apple Watch

1. Open the Watch app on your iPhone

2. Tap “Wallet & Apple Pay”, then tap “Add Credit or Debit Card” and follow the prompts

To set up Apple Pay on your iPad, follow the instructions:

  1. Go to Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay
  2. Tap Add Credit or Debit card
  3. Follow the steps to add a new card. If you’re asked to add the card that you use with iTunes, cards on other devices, or cards that you’ve recently removed, choose them, then enter the card security codes.
  4. Tap Next.

You may be asked to verify your card. The verification code will be sent to the mobile number you registered with Westpac.

Once we’ve verified your card, go back to Setting > Wallet & Apple Pay and tap your card, then tap Next.

To add a card to Apple Pay, you need a Mac model with Touch ID.

On Mac models without a built-in Touch ID, you can complete your purchase using Apple Pay on your eligible iPhone or Apple Watch.

On your iPhone, go to Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay and turn on 'Allow Payments on Mac'.

  1. To add a card to your Mac model with Touch ID
  2. Go to System Preferences > Wallet & Apple Pay
  3. Tap Add Card
  4. Follow the steps to add a new card. If you’re asked to add the card that you use with iTunes, just enter its security code.
  5. Tap Next.

You may be asked to verify your card. The verification code will be sent to the mobile number you registered with Westpac.

Once we’ve verified your card go to System Preferences > Wallet & Apple Pay and tap your card, then tap Next.

No, there's no cost to use or set up Apple Pay.

Unfortunately no. Apple Pay with Westpac is only available on eligible debit and credit Mastercards.

Using Apple Pay

You can use Apple Pay wherever you can make contactless payments or wherever you see the contactless payment symbol.

It can also be used within apps and on websites using the Safari browser.

Apple Pay works anywhere contactless payments are accepted. You can use it to pay wherever you see the contactless payment symbol.

We recommend you take your debit or credit card as a backup when travelling overseas, and let us know before you go so we can protect your cards and transactions better while you’re away.

On iPhone with Touch ID:

To pay with Touch ID, hold your iPhone next to the contactless reader with your finger on touch id.

On iPhone with Face ID:

To pay with Face ID, just double-click the side button, glance at your screen, then hold your iPhone next to the contactless reader.

Your iPhone will display Done to indicate the terminal has received your transaction. The terminal will then indicate if the transaction has been successful. (For some transactions over $80, you may be prompted to enter your card PIN to complete the transaction). Also see how to use Apple Pay in Apps and on the web.

You can use your iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch and compatible Mac with Touch ID to pay in apps.

Paying within apps with Touch ID

  1. Select 'Apple Pay' as the payment method at checkout.
  2. To confirm payment on iPhone and iPad, place your finger on Touch ID or enter your passcode. On Apple Watch, just double-click the side button.
  3. Your device will display 'Done' to indicate the terminal has received your transaction.

Mac models with Touch ID

  1. Select Apple Pay
  2. Check your billing, shipping and contact information is correct. You can select a different card instead of your default card, select Expand menu icon next to your default card and choose the card you want to use.
  3. Once you're ready to make your purchase, follow the prompts on the Touch Bar and place your finger on Touch ID. If Touch ID is off, tap the Apple Pay icon on the Touch Bar and follow the prompts on the screen.
  4. When your payment is successful, you'll see 'Done' and a tick on the screen.

 

With other Mac models

  1. You need an iPhone or Apple Watch to confirm payments. Make sure that you're signed in with the same Apple ID on all your devices.

  2. Make sure you've turned on Bluetooth on your Mac.

  3. Tap the Apple Pay button.

  4. Check your billing, shipping, and contact information is correct. You can select a different card instead of your default card, select Expand menu icon. You can choose credit and debit cards or Apple Pay from any iPhone or Apple Watch that is nearby and signed into the same iCloud account.

  5. Once you're ready to make your purchase and confirm the payment.
     - iPhone X or later: Double-click the side button, then use Face ID or your passcode.
    - iPhone 8 or earlier: Use Touch ID or your passcode.
    - Apple Watch: Double-click the side button.

  6. When your payment is successful, you'll see Done and a checkmark on the screen.

Paying within apps with Face ID

  1. When you're ready to check out, tap the Buy with Apple Pay button or choose Apple Pay as the payment method. Confirm your payment information. To choose a different card to pay with, tap > next to your card.
  2. Double-click the side button, then glance at your iPhone or iPad.
  3. Your device will display 'Done' to indicate the transaction's complete.

You can use your iPhone, iPad, and MacBook Pro with Touch ID to pay on websites in Safari. Macs without Touch ID will require you to complete the purchase with your iPhone or Apple Watch.

Select Apple Pay as the payment method at checkout.

Your default card will appear. To pay with a different card, tap the > icon on your iPhone or iPad, or the Expand icon on your MacBook Pro.

To confirm payment on iPhone and iPad, place your finger on Touch ID or enter your passcode. On MacBook Pro, follow the prompts on the Touch Bar and place your finger on Touch ID to confirm. If Touch ID is off, tap the Apple Pay icon on the Touch Bar and follow the prompts. Your device will display Done to indicate the transaction has been successful. Yes, you will continue to receive all of the same benefits, including Airpoints and hotpoints (your eligible Westpac card offers) when you pay with your Westpac cards on Apple Pay. 

No, you don't need an internet connection to use Apple Pay at retailers. Your device uses Near Field Communication (NFC) to communicate with the terminal.

No, unfortunately Apple Pay will not work at contactless enabled ATMs. You will need to use your relevant physical cards to complete these transactions.

For iPhone or iPad:

Wallet App:
Open the Wallet app, then tap and hold the card.
Drag it to the front and release. Tap OK.
You will receive a notification confirming your new default card setting.

Settings:
Go to Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay
Scroll down to Transaction Defaults
Tap Default Card, then choose a new card.


For Apple Watch:
On your iPhone open the Apple Watch app.
Tap My Watch tab
Tap Wallet & Apple Pay
Tap Default Card

You may have location services turned on for your Apple Pay wallet.

To turn location services off go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Wallet. Change the setting to Never.

Managing cards (default/lost/stolen)

From the Wallet app:

  • Open the Wallet app
  • Select the card you’d like to remove
  • Tap on the icon More icon
  • Tap Remove Card at the bottom of your screen.

From Settings:

  • Open Settings
  • Scroll down and tap Wallet & Apple Pay
  • Select the card you’d like to remove
  • Tap Remove Card at the bottom of your screen.

To remove a card from Apple Pay on your Mac (with Touch ID), just 

  1. Open System Preferences
  2. Select Wallet & Apple Pay
  3. Select the card you’d like to remove
  4. Click the minus (–) icon to remove the card.

To remove a card from Apple Pay on your Apple watch, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Open the Watch app on your iPhone
  2. Go to the My Watch tab
  3. Scroll down and tap Wallet & Apple Pay
  4. Select the card you’d like to remove
  5. Tap Remove Card at the bottom of your screen.

If you remove a card from your Wallet, you will no longer be able to use that card for Apple Pay transactions.

If you have already authorised transactions, e.g. by checking in at a hotel with your credit card or buying a subscription then these payments will be honoured.

You need to contact the Vendor / Supplier to cancel the subscription or recurring transaction as you would if you had used your physical card.

You can block this device by either:

  1. Blocking it within ‘Find my iPhone’ or via your iCloud account, or
  2. Call 0800 WESTPAC

Note: You can continue to use Apple pay on other devices as well as your physical card.

If your device with Apple Pay on it is stolen, please notify Westpac immediately on 0800 WESTPAC.

You can also block the device using either ‘Find my iPhone' or via your iCloud account. Alternatively you can ask our Call Centre to do this when you report your device stolen.

Note: You can continue to use Apple pay on other devices as well as your physical card.

Yes, you can still use Apple Pay for eligible purchases if you have temporarily misplaced the physical debit or credit card loaded to Apple Pay.

You can also continue using Apple Pay if you've cancelled your Westpac card (because it's lost or been stolen) because Westpac issue each card with a new virtual number. This way you'll always have a secure way to pay.

You must contact Westpac immediately on 0800 WESTPAC if:

  1. Your Apple or Android device or the SIM card for your device are lost or stolen
  2. Someone else has used, or might have used, Apple Pay or Westpac Pay without your authority
  3. Someone else knows, or may know, the passcode or knows how to unlock your Apple or Android device, or your Westpac card PIN
  4. The telephone number for your Apple or Android device is transferred to someone else without your permission, and you are suddenly disconnected from the mobile service on your device. This may indicate you have been subject to mobile phone fraud 
  5. You suspect a security breach has occurred in relation to your Apple or Android device, or Apple Pay or Google Pay.

Based on your report, we may stop the use of your Westpac card in Apple Pay, and we may also suspend use of your physical Westpac card. This helps protect you as much as possible from additional loss or liability.

Staying safe

Using Apple Pay with your eligible Westpac credit and debit cards is private and secure. Apple Pay is designed to protect your personal information, transaction data, credit and debit card information with their built-in security technology.
