Westpac NZ wins Asian Banker Magazine’s Best Retail Bank of the Year (NZ)

Westpac NZ was named Best Retail Bank of the Year (NZ) at The Asian Banker Excellence in Retail Financial Services Awards 2015 in Singapore overnight.

The awards recognise the leading financial institutions across Asia Pacific, Central Asia, Middle East and Africa.

Judges awarded the prize for the bank’s work in expanding its digital offering, reshaping its physical footprint with new branch formats, and enhancing non-branch distribution channels.

Westpac New Zealand’s Head of Retail Ian Blair says it is an honour and is recognition of Westpac’s strategy in a changing environment.

“We’re incredibly proud of this achievement - it reflects a huge amount of work from across the bank to ensure we are responding to the changes in how customers want to conduct their financial services. The award is recognition of the fantastic job our staff have done in making banking easier, simpler and faster for our customers.”

The award covers a number of accomplishments including:

  • Digital innovations including Westpac One, Australasia’s first fully responsive internet banking platform with increased functionality across smartphones, tablets, and desktop

  • New Zealand’s largest network of Smart ATMS which process one third of deposits outside of regular hours

  • Innovative branch formats including HelpStations with self-service technology and the 24/7 SmartStation banking lobby

  • Strategic partnerships including SeniorNet to promote digital banking confidence amongst seniors

  • Enhanced product offerings including PayTag, World MasterCard, Accessible Term Deposit and the Property Investor offering
