Ken Tuioti

Ken Tuioti

From a customer service representative to managing a team of leaders, Westpac’s Ken Tuioti is a prime example of how an entry level role at Westpac can develop into a fruitful career in banking.

Ken began his journey with Westpac seven years ago. The role was a fresh start for him as he did not come from a customer service background, but the in-depth training for the role prepared him well for his bright future at the organisation.

Ken is currently recruiting a team of Customer Service Representatives (CSRs) for a new contact centre that is being established in Hamilton. He says banking is a great place to start your customer service journey.

CSR is a fantastic entry into banking and while it may not be your “forever role”, it’s a great foundation for anyone to build upon. Ken says the great thing about the roles - whose salaries start at $54,436 per annum - is that candidates can move on to other jobs within Westpac. Like Ken, a number of recent CSR recruits have forayed into other roles, especially in areas like finance and lending.

Ken said he loves how no two days are the same and Westpac’s culture really supports his passion for his work.

“I mean, we're all here for a shared purpose and that is delivering what we can for the customer. That’s the kind of mindset you need to have in any position that you've got, whether it's contact centre or anywhere else in the bank.”

Ken said the skills his first CSR role at Westpac gave him led him on a path where he could choose to grow into leadership-based roles and pass down similar values to those working with him.

Most importantly, Ken says, he does not dictate terms to his team. The floor is always open for them to share their goals and he does everything he can to help his team achieve them.

The only skill you need, he says, is to bring a passion to help our customers, our community and each other.
