Joint Accounts

Joint accounts are not blocked. The other joint party/signatories can continue to operate the account. If the deceased has no outstanding debt or guarantees, we will remove the deceased customer from the joint accounts.

If the deceased owned a joint loan or joint credit card, before they can be removed from the accounts we will need to ensure that the remaining account owners can afford the lending repayments.  To do this, we will need to conduct a basic lending assessment with the remaining owners.

If you are suffering financial hardship and are struggling with your loan repayments due to your loss, we may be able to help.  Please contact our Financial Solutions team on 0800 772771 to go through your options.

Joint Credit Cards and Additional Card Holders

If you have a joint credit card with the deceased, the card will be transferred into your name.

If you are an additional card holder, the additional credit card will become invalid upon the passing of the principal card holder and you will need to apply to have your own card.
