Phones and tablets you can use.

You can use Google Pay with any phones or tablets running Android Lollipop (5.0) or higher.  For contactless in-store payments, the Android device must:

  • support near-field communication (NFC)
  • support host card emulation (HCE).

Android tablets and any Android phones that don’t support NFC can only be used for payments in apps or on websites.

Check the version of Android your phone or tablet uses:
  • Go to Settings > About Phone > Software information > Android version to check the operating system your phone or tablet is using
Check NFC:
  1. Open Settings
  2. In the Search settings bar, type NFC
  3. Choose and turn on NFC.

If you can’t find NFC, your Android phone can’t make contactless in-store payments - however, you will still be able to use your phone to make payments on websites and in apps.
