If you don't have enough money in your account the payment won't be processed overnight.

If it's an Automatic Payment

  • We will automatically retry the payment in the evening and if necessary the next business day, following the planned payment date; unless you cancel or suspend the payment (see instructions below)
  • If the payment fails the second and third times it will show as a "Failed transaction" on your list
  • Westpac no longer charges Dishonour fees.

If it's a Bill Payment

  • We will automatically retry the payment in the evening and if necessary the next calendar day, following the planned payment date; unless you cancel or amend the payment (see instructions below)
  • If the payment fails the second and third times it will show as a "Failed transaction" on your list, amending or cancelling the payment in Online Banking.

When you login to Online Banking you will

  • See a note on your welcome screen that will inform you that one or some of your payments have failed, but will be retried
  • Have the option to amend or cancel these payments by selecting 'View/amend planned transactions and APs'.
