How do I transfer my credit card from my current provider to Westpac?

When can I start using my card?
Once you’ve been approved for a Westpac Airpoints credit card, it should be with you within 5-7 days. Depending on your circumstances, you may need to visit a Westpac branch to load a secure PIN and verify your identity, address and income.
If you have transferred from another Westpac credit card or pre-selected your PIN, activate your card by;
- using it with your PIN at any EFTPOS terminal, or
- requesting an account balance or cash withdrawal at any ATM
I currently have a hotpoints® credit card and I want an Airpoints credit card – what should I do?
You can use Westpac One online banking to apply to open a new credit account or apply to transfer your existing card here. Make sure you redeem your hotpoints as soon as possible as they’ll expire 10 business days from the date you close your hotpoints credit card account or switch to a non hotpints Westpac credit card, such as an Airpoints credit card.
Once your request to cancel your hotpoints credit card has been processed or your application for an alternative Westpac credit card has been submitted, you will not be able to do the following during the ten day expiry period:
- redeem hotpoints online (only over the phone by calling 0800 861 862);
- redeem hotpoints for holiday credits or e-vouchers; or
- use the Points + Pay mechanism.

What happens to my hotpoints if I move to an Airpoints credit card?
Your hotpoints will expire 10 days after you submit your application for an Airpoints™ credit card. You can redeem your hotpoints online before transferring. Or, once you have submitted your application for an Airpoints credit card, you can explore your reward options at hotpoints.co.nz and check your hotpoints balance or redeem your hotpoints by calling 0800 861 862 (Mon-Fri, 8.30 to 5pm). If you’d like to continue earning hotpoints rewards, you can open an Airpoints credit card account and have both!
I’ve been approved for a new Westpac Airpoints credit card, how do I choose a PIN?
We’ll be in touch to let you know how and when a PIN can be selected. We may request that you do this online or – depending on the circumstances – that you select a PIN at one of our Westpac branches, bringing appropriate ID with you (read about what these are here).
I selected the wrong PIN / I want to change my PIN
You can change your PIN once you receive your card. You can do this by visiting one of our branches with an appropriate form of ID (learn about ID types here).
I already have a Westpac credit card and have applied for an Airpoints credit card. If I don’t want two credit cards am I able to join these together?

My card has been sent to the wrong address – what should I do?
Please call us on 0800 226 573 to make sure your contact details are correct.
I’ve started my application on the Westpac website but I need to go and do something – will my application be saved?
If you close or refresh the window, your progress won’t be saved. But you can leave the window open, return to it within a short period of time and the information will still be there as you left it.
My Airpoints login won’t work when I try to apply for a Westpac Airpoints credit card – what should I do?
If you’ve forgotten your login details, then you can go to Air New Zealand’s ‘login help’ page and follow the instructions to get them sent to you. Then come back and log in with your details on the Westpac website.
I’ve been waiting for my card and it hasn’t arrived – what should I do?

I’ve requested to transfer my balance but it hasn’t happened yet – what should I do?

If I transfer my balance from another credit card, will I earn Airpoints Dollars on that balance?
No, Airpoints Dollars can only be earned on purchases. Cash advances and balance transfers are excluded from earning Airpoints Dollars*.
How do I get a Westpac Airpoints™ World MasterCard®?

I don’t want the card type you’ve suggested, how do I select a different card type?

I usually pay my credit card by direct debit; do I need to a set up a new one on my Westpac Airpoints credit card?
Yes, you’ll need to arrange a new direct debit for your new card by completing a direct debit application, which you can download here or pick up at any Westpac branch. Remember to change over any subscription services you may have (such as iTunes) and regular payments (e.g. your power company or telecommunications provider) - to your new card as well.
What about regular payments I make with my credit card like insurance or gym membership? How do I set these up on my new Westpac Airpoints™ MasterCard®?
These payment arrangements are agreements between yourself and the payee. To continue this payment arrangement you’ll need to advise these payees of your new credit card number and expiry date.
Do I have to open a transaction or savings account with Westpac to get the credit card?
No. You may wish to open a transaction and/or savings account with Westpac to consolidate your banking all in one place, but it’s not a requirement.
I currently have a Gold GlobalPlus card. Can I get a Gold Westpac Airpoints credit card?
Westpac doesn’t offer a Gold Airpoints card but if you apply online you can select a card with a comparible conditionally approved credit limit. If you’d like a particular Airpoints credit card type, please call 0800 226 573 to discuss.

- using it with your PIN at any EFTPOS terminal, or
- obtaining an account balance or cash withdrawal at any ATM.
If I take advantage of the 5.95% p.a. balance transfer offer, what interest will I pay on my new purchases?
You'll pay the standard purchase interest rate on any new purchases you make with your card since purchases made with the card do not qualify for the 5.95% p.a. rate. The 5.95% p.a. rate only applies to transferred balances until you have paid off that debt. It's important to note that all credit card repayments will go towards paying off your transferred balance first, and any purchases (or cash advances) won't be paid off until you've paid all of the transferred balance.
