Here’s what our staff are saying.

Plan holidays with your finances in mind.

Keeping a photo of your dream holiday destination handy can help motivate you to save. You could set up a dedicated account in Westpac One online banking for your holiday and put money into it each time you get paid. Plus, if you don’t spend all the money you set aside for your holiday, you can put it towards the next one!

Worried about debts? Consider consolidating.

If you have more than one debt, like a personal loan or outstanding credit card balance, you may like to consider talking to your bank about consolidating all your loans into one, so you just have one regular repayment to make each month. It could help you save on fees and cut down on your personal admin.

Dedicated accounts can make saving simpler.

Setting up accounts for different purposes can help you stay on track with your savings plans. You may want a dedicated account for daily spending, another for emergencies, one for bill payments, and one to save for bigger purchases or long-term goals. You can use our  Salary Splitter tool to automatically split your salary, wages or income into multiple accounts as soon as you get paid.

Earn interest on money set aside for your credit card payments.

Rather than transferring money from your savings to your credit card account you could keep that money in a savings account so it earns interest. Then to avoid interest on your credit card, pay off your closing balance in full on or before your credit card payment is due. You can set up payment reminder alerts in Westpac One® online banking.

Check your statement and track your spending.

Reviewing your statements carefully can pay off with big savings. Look for unnecessary spending, then you can challenge yourself to decrease it next month. Plus check which subscriptions you’re being billed for – if you haven’t used them in a while, you may not even miss them if you cancelled them.

Watch out for scams.

When you’re buying things online, try to consider whether it’s something you actually need, or just want. And if an online deal seems too good to be true, it may well be a scam. Take the time to confirm if the site is legitimate. For more information on scams, head to the Safety & Security section of our website.

Make a budget and stick to it.

Try tracking your spending over a few months, then use that information to create a budget. Our budget calculator can help you work out how much you could save.

Fine-tune your home loan.

If you have a fixed rate home loan with Westpac, there may be ways to help you manage your home loan. Talk to us for more hints and tips to get yours fine-tuned.

Short tips for quick savings wins.

  • Time your automatic payments and direct debits to your pay cycle.
  • If your credit card limit is higher than you need, consider reducing it.
  • Consider implementing the 50:30:20 money rule – 50% for needs, 30% for wants, 20% to save.
