Gender Equality: Just how equal is NZ?

Do you think global economic equality between men and women is possible in your lifetime?

According to the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap 2015 Report launched this month, it will take the world another 118 years – or until 2133 – to close the economic gender gap.

Today, women are earning close to what men were paid back in 2006, when the Forum first developed its Global Gender Gap Index.

And although New Zealand is making progress in this area, a recent Gender Equality in New Zealand Report shows that more needs to be done to accomplish gender equality for women in this country.

The report, completed in June, is based on a public opinion survey and was conducted by Research New Zealand.

The public opinion survey providing the above results and full report was completed in June 2015, by telephone, with a nationally-representative sample of 500 New Zealanders 18 years of age and older.
