Willie Apiata: The importance of loved ones during the holidays

With the end of the year coming up, we asked Westpac Ambassador Willie Apiata for his thoughts on what he’s thankful for and how people can enjoy a stress-free holiday season.

What are your plans this summer?Willie Westpac Yout

I will be spending Christmas at home and opening presents with my whanau, then travel down to the East Coast and camp at mum’s for the holidays, ride horses, go swimming, diving and relax and have fun with the whanau.

As the end of 2017 draws near, what are you thankful for?

I am thankful for my beautiful family, the happiness they bring me, and being able to be home to grow with them.

What advice can you give New Zealanders to help them enjoy a happy and stress-free holiday season?

Turn off your phone or holiday somewhere where there is no reception.

Spend quality time with your loved ones. Just relax and have a well-deserved break.

You’ve spent a lot of time away from your loved ones in your career, how special is it to be able to spend time with family and friends at this time of year?

It is so special to be home for Christmas after a lifetime of being away missing holidays and birthdays.

I love being able to be there to share special moments with my family.
