Summer loving - Part 4

Summer loving - Part 4

Shelley at a field camp in the Dry Valley in Ross Sea region, Antarctica taken in December 2014.

As thousands of Kiwis flock to their favourite summer holiday locations over Christmas and New Years, we caught up with Shelley Campbell, Chief Executive of the Sir Peter Blake Trust, to see which part of the country she heads off to.

What is your favourite NZ summer holiday spot?Shelley Campbell

I live on Waiheke Island so summer feels like one long holiday to me as we have a steady stream of good friends and family booking in to stay with us.

So what is it you love about Waiheke Island?

Waiheke is only 35 min by ferry from Auckland but feels like a world away. From beautiful beaches, interesting events, friendly people and the numerous vineyards and great restaurants, its truly hard to beat.

How long have you been going there for?

We have lived on the island for 4 years but were coming to Waiheke for summer at least 10 years before that.

What is your favourite/fondest memory there?

So many great memories but flying by Sea plane from Orapiu over to Oneroa and landing in the middle of dolphins at play just off the beach was magic.

If you were pitching Waiheke Island to one of your mates as the perfect Kiwi summer spot, what would you say some of its best features are?

Once they realise its free accommodation at our house on a beautiful Island in the middle of the Hauraki Gulf they don’t seem to need much more convincing! Best features are great spots for kayaking, beautiful NZ wines and the perfect place to slow down and renergise.
