Allanah Alldred says she owes her life to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter after falling off her horse when it bolted from an electric fence shock on Waiheke Island.
She was struggling in and out of consciousness and transported to Starship Children’s Hospital via the rescue helicopter (7mins each way as opposed to 45mins one way by ferry) where she remained for two weeks.
Allanah was told that she had been rescued in what is referred to as the golden hour of life. This is the critical hour when a patient needs to receive help before their whole body starts to shut down.
She is very grateful for the chopper and its crewmen for saving her life that day.
Here is Allanah’s story:
Each chopper rescue mission costs approximately $3,800.
