NZ banking first: Westpac enters a new online world

With a growing population, businesses are starting to look outside the square to better connect with New Zealand’s Asian community.

Westpac is now the first bank in New Zealand to have a multichannel presence across popular Chinese social media platforms, Weibo, WeChat and Youku.

Launched in January, the new online channels will help to engage with its Chinese customers in a greater and more relevant way.

In addition, articles published on its website REDnews are now being translated into Mandarin with a new section on the site specifically dedicated to the wider Asian community.

REDnews is a news website delivering informative and practical help to New Zealanders in a variety of areas including Property, Business, Lifestyle, Women and Community.


Stories feature a mix of subject matter experts and well-known Kiwis who share their insights, learnings and opinions on current and other relevant topics.

Westpac is also excited to have Chinese social media guru, Camellia Yang, join the social media team in the specialist role of Westpac Digital & Social Media Channel Manager Asia.

Camellia is experienced in developing digital marketing and communication strategies for the Asian community and joins Westpac from Air New Zealand.

Originally from Jinan, China, Camellia has been invited as a guest speaker to showcase her work achievements for clients and companies including University of Auckland, Asian NZ Foundation and the Social Media Club Auckland. In her spare time she writes for SocialBeta (China's version of Mashable).



Westpac’s Weibo account will be used to deliver important messages, news, and information as well as sharing REDnews articles.
