ATM fees. Good news.
Did you know it's now free to use your Westpac EFTPOS or debit card at another major NZ bank's ATM.Find out more
The great news is that on 1 April the $1 fee to use another major NZ bank’s ATM was removed. Note that using your credit card at an ATM in New Zealand for a cash advance will continue to cost $2. To find the location of Westpac ATMs click here.
When overseas, try to use ATMs that are part of the Global ATM Alliance. Click here for more details.
Direct credit your pay
Ask your employer to direct deposit your pay into your account. You get your money faster, it ensures it is deposited on time ready to pay bills and saves you the time of going to the bank to deposit your money.
Plan your regular payments
You could set up your automatic payments for the day after payday, this way you’re more likely to have the money available.
Also when using automatic payments, think about choosing the option to have these paid on the day before a non-business day (weekend or public holiday) when you set them up. This reduces the risk of not having enough money available after the weekend.
Set up Salary Splitter
You can automatically split your salary into different accounts, and keep your savings separate from your spending money. You could set it up so you have one account for all your bills. This will help make sure you have enough to pay direct debits, automatic payments and bill payments each pay period.
Set up Sweep-over
Automatically move money between accounts. It's great for keeping your balance at a certain level without having to worry about it, ensuring you always have enough in your transactional account for automatic payments, direct debits and planned bill payments.
Use Bill Payments instead of paying by Direct Debit
You can use our online Bill Payments tool to ensure you have enough money in your account before paying bills. This way you’re in control of when you pay the bill – just make sure you know when bills are due (put a note in your diary) so you don’t forget.
Use Mobile & Txt Banking
View balances and transfer money on Westpac One® mobile app, or between two nominated accounts by txt on your registered mobile, while you’re out and about. See here for more information.
Apply for an overdraft
If you find yourself occasionally going into overdraft by mistake, you could apply for an arranged overdraft. Note there is a set up fee of $25 and a minimum monthly fee of $5, however the $5 minimum fee is less than an unarranged overdraft fee. Note that lending criteria apply.
Avoid paying late payment fees as well in addition to interest – make at least the minimum payment each month on your credit card. Although remember, it is best to pay off the closing balance each month if possible, because if you only make the minimum payment you will have more interest to pay.
