Traveling with your business credit card
Before you travel overseas, take a look at what you can do with your BusinessPLUS Gold MasterCard and MasterCard BusinessCard.
Where your card is accepted
MasterCard is accepted at 32 million locations around the world which makes your MasterCard BusinessCard or BusinessPLUS Gold MasterCard is an ideal companion for when your business takes you overseas.
If you need to get hold of cash, you can get local currency from any ATM displaying the MasterCard or Cirrus symbol (for cardholders with authorised cash advances) and you can even avoid paying international transaction charges if you use a Global Alliance ATM. (Other international fees apply.)
Tips for using your card overseas
- before you travel make sure you get a PIN loaded onto your credit card
- when using an ATM, look for ATMs displaying the MasterCard to ensure your card is accepted
- be careful when selecting your account for cash withdrawals as some ATMs will process withdrawals by default from a particular account
- in some countries, eftpos terminal devices prefer signature over PIN. When this is the case, you will be asked to sign your receipt in order to accept the transaction even though you may have a PIN on your credit card.
Credit Card refusals
In the UK and Europe, some New Zealand credit cardholders have had their credit card refused because their credit card is not a chip card and their credit card is verified by signature. Your credit card should not be refused for either of these reasons.
While the United Kingdom and Europe use new ‘chip and PIN’ credit cards, internationally-issued credit cards using a PIN and/or signature should still be accepted. If your credit card is refused ask the merchant to call their local MasterCard® office.
Call us on +64 9 914 8026 to advise us of the incident and provide merchant location details. Please note that call charges may apply.
If your card is lost or stolen while travelling, please contact us immediately on +64 9 914 8026 (24 hours a day). Please note that call charges may apply.
With MasterCard you can also receive emergency assistance through MasterAssist™ - this is a toll-free telephone service provided by MasterCard Global Service Network. (It’s only for cardholders travelling overseas who need card related, medical or legal emergencies or travel advice.)
