We were crowned the 2011 NZI Sustainable Business of the Year, as well as taking home the Trailblazer Large and Corporate Business Award and the People's Choice Award. The Judges were “... particularly impressed by Westpac's high level of commitment to sustainability across management levels. It has instigated sustainability initiatives in a number of business areas such as carbon trading, an impulse savings product, financial literacy programmes, recyclable bank cards and communication of sustainability issues to customers.”
EECA Energy Management Award
In 2010, we also won the Energy Management category in the EECA Awards against tough competition including Department of Conservation, ASB Bank and SKYCITY Auckland.
Judges commented that our energy management plan showed “industry leadership” and was “a broad-based, well managed programme with demonstrated expansion year on year.”
A detailed plan gave Westpac its energy-saving blueprint which resulted in an impressive 21% saving in energy usage in two years.
