As thousands of Kiwis flock to their favourite summer holiday locations over Christmas and New Years, we caught up with well-known Kiwi broadcaster Carol Hirschfeld to see which part of the country she heads off to.
What is your favourite NZ summer holiday spot?
Matapouri on the Tutukaka Coast in Northland is the place my family has been lucky enough to spend many happy summer days.
Our dear friends have a house there and every year for nearly two decades they’ve invited us to share their special part of the world.
What is it you love about Matapouri?
White sand, blue clear ocean, family, friendship and fabulous food are the things this beautiful place represents for me.
How long have you been going there for?
Nearly 20 years.
What is your favourite/fondest memory there?
Watching my 3-year-old daughter and my best friend's three-year-old son sitting in matching plastic tubs, splashing each other under a blooming Pohutukawa tree.
If you were pitching it to one of your friends as the perfect New Zealand summer spot, what would you say some of its best features are?
I think the beach is one of the finest in New Zealand...a perfect curving, crescent of white sand with clean, crystal waters washing up the shore.
