It is now internationally recognised that the business community of Christchurch, and of wider Canterbury, has defeated all odds in terms of remaining active and strong since the 2010-11 earthquakes.
The Canterbury economy remains strong with activity evident in the context of the rebuild, but equally as important are strong contributions coming from other urban businesses and, despite the dairy downturn, the rural sector.
The interdependency between this strong business sector and a strong community is vital as we continue with our rebuild and there's no better place to celebrate this than at the Champion Canterbury Business Awards.
Business is important to all of us
The Champion Canterbury Business Awards showcase the region's strong business activity as well as the willingness of our community to identify its business heroes.
They are also a very good way of getting the wider community to understand how important business is to all of us and how in some way or another we are almost all associated with the contribution that business makes.
A night to celebrate
The Champion Canterbury Business Awards are the largest business awards in New Zealand, and we expect a sell-out crowd of 1,250 attendees to celebrate business success and recognise those businesses making a special contribution to our economy.
The fantastic event, hosted in association with The Press and supported by Westpac as a principal supporter, is into its 13th year and will be held in Christchurch on 16 September.
This year we have a record number of 196 entries in the various award categories, representing a cross-section of our economy and evidence of the vibrant business activity and strong growth that continues in our region. The finalists will be announced on Wednesday 29 July.
This 16 September will be a time to celebrate, and a time to recognise our business heroes.
