How much do email and txt alerts cost?
It’s free to register and there’s no monthly fee.  
Email alerts are free. Txt alert charges are as follows:  
Txts you receive  
You'll get 10 free txts from Westpac each month. You can use these free txts for txt alerts and Txt banking balances and transfer confirmations
Additional txts costs 25c each to receive*

What happens if I don’t use all my free txts within the month?
Free txts don’t accrue from month to month. They must be used by the last day of the month or they will expire.

How will email and txt alert transactions show on my statement?
Txt alerts will show on your statement as ‘Westpac Alert Txt Alert’ with the 25c fee alongside – except the first 10 free txts, which will show as $0.
Note: With Txt banking, each txt balance enquiry will show on your statement as ‘Txt banking balance’ and each txt transfer will show as ‘Txt banking Funds Trf’.

What bank accounts can I set up email and txt alerts for?
You can set up email and txt alerts for any account that you have loaded against your Online Banking Customer ID.
For failed loan alerts your loan account doesn't have to show in Online Banking but the payment account does need to be on your online profile.

When are email and txt alerts sent to me?
You can set up email and txt alerts to
If you have asked us to alert you when your account balance goes over or under a certain level, we’ll check your account every few hours between 7am and 9.30pm and txt you when we see that your account has reached that point.**
email alerts can be sent out 24 hours a day, seven days a week
txt alerts can be sent out daily between 7am and 9:30pm
Txt alerts activated after 9.30pm will be sent to you by 7am the following day.

Can I receive txt alerts overseas?
Txt alerts can only be set up for New Zealand registered mobile phones
you may still be able to receive your txt alerts overseas but your mobile service provider may charge you for receiving txt alerts while you are out of New Zealand
you may want to cancel your txt alerts before going overseas

Can I cancel or amend my email and txt alerts?
You can cancel or amend your email and txt alerts at any time using Online Banking, but you will still be charged any applicable charges for txt alerts already sent to you

I was expecting an alert but didn’t receive it
If you have asked us to alert you when your account balance goes over or under a certain amount, we’ll
check your account every few hours between 7am and 9.30pm
let you know when your bank account balance has reached that point
The email or txt alert may not be sent to you immediately after your balance moves but you will be alerted within the following few hours after we have checked.
Alerts may not be sent if
the account has been removed from your Online Banking Customer ID
your registration for ‘Banking on your mobile’ services has been cancelled
your Online Banking Customer ID has been suspended^
your Txt banking nominated account for charging txt messages has closed
the Bank has restricted access to your account for any reason
for failed loan payment alerts the payment account must show on your Online Banking profile
Alerts may sometimes be delayed, or not delivered, due to issues with your mobile or email provider.

What happens if I change my mobile number?
If you get a new mobile number you can update your registration details for ‘Banking on your mobile’ services online
login to Online Banking and select the ‘Banking on your mobile’ option from the left hand menu
select ‘change’ next to your mobile number and enter your new mobile number details
follow the screen instructions to update and confirm your new details
we’ll send an activation code to your mobile phone which you need to enter into Online Banking to prove that it is your mobile number
There’s no charge for changing your mobile number for ’Banking on your mobile’ services or for changing your nominated account number

Can you send txt alerts to more than one mobile number?
No – txt alerts can only be sent to the phone number that is registered for ’Banking on your mobile’ services. You can only register one mobile number.

Will email and txt alerts include an account nickname?
Yes- to make the alerts easier to understand we'll use the nicknames you've given to your accounts.

Can I use txt or email alerts for other banking services?
Yes. Register for Txt banking to get real time balances from two accounts or transfer funds from your savings or back-up account to your main account by txt wherever you are, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

When will Online Banking security alerts be sent out?
If you’ve asked for an alert whenever you login to Online Banking you’ll get an alert within a few minutes.

Why did you alert me when I changed the reference details for someone I pay online?
If you’ve asked us to alert you whenever a new person is added or changes are made to someone you pay online, we’ll send you an email or txt alert no matter what those changes are

I transferred money between my accounts but I didn’t get an email or txt alert
Transfers between your own accounts will not generate an alert even if you have asked us to alert you about your Online Banking activities.

I made a tax payment but I didn’t get an email or txt alert
Tax payments will not generate an alert even if you have asked us to alert you about your Online Banking activities

If I’ve got more than one credit card, can I get email and txt alerts for both?
Yes, provided you can see both credit card accounts when you log into Online Banking you will be able to set up alerts for both of them.
Please contact us if you need to get another account added to your Online Banking ID.

I’ve already paid more than the minimum monthly payment amount so why have you sent me a reminder to pay my credit card bill?
Everyone manages their credit card accounts slightly differently so we’ll send you a reminder three days before your due date if you have a balance outstanding at that time.
If you’ve already made the minimum payment you can ignore the alert.
If you want to clear the closing balance from your last statement you will still have time.

Why didn’t I receive a reminder that my credit card payment was due?
We won’t send you a reminder if your credit card
has a current balance of $0.00 or
has a credit balance

When will account balance email and txt alerts be sent to me?
email alerts can be sent out 24 hours a day, seven days a week
txt alerts can be sent out between 7am and 9.30pm each day
we’ll check your account balance every few hours
we’ll alert you if your balance is over (or under) the amount you’ve set for alerts
For example, if you’ve asked us to alert you if your current balance DR goes over $200, we’ll sent an alert if your account is overdrawn more than $200. We won’t send you an email or txt alert about your account unless the DR balance goes over $200.

What does balance type ‘Current Balance DR’ mean?
You would select this if you wanted to know if your account
goes over a certain amount overdrawn or
goes under a certain amount overdrawn
This is particularly useful if you regularly operate your account in overdraft

When I get my balance what does ‘money available’ mean?
The money available amount for your account is the amount of money that you could spend right now if you were making an EFTPOS or ATM transaction
This includes any money that you may have available in an overdraft facility, but does not include the uncleared funds portion of any cheques or automatic payments that may have been deposited to your account in the past few days

How can I set up an email or txt alert for an overdrawn account?
If you want to be alerted when your account balance becomes more overdrawn
select ‘Current Balance DR’ from the choose balance type drop down menu
then choose whether you want to be alerted if your account becomes more (goes over a certain amount) or less (goes under a certain amount) overdrawn
Examples of alerts for overdrawn accounts

Current Balance DR Goes over $2000 We will txt you when money is withdrawn from your account and your balance reaches $2000.01 overdrawn
Current Balance DR Goes under $2000 We will txt you when money is deposited into your account and the balance reaches $1999.99 overdrawn

My account was already over the balance that I asked you to alert me about when I set up my email and txt alerts. Why did you send me an alert?
If you’ve asked us to alert you if your balance goes over an amount we’ll check your account every few hours and alert you the first time your balance goes over that level.
In this case we haven’t previously sent you a balance alert so you will be sent one.

* If you are registered for Txt banking as well as txt alerts, these charges will be paid from your main Westpac bank account. If you are only registered for txt alerts, you will be charged from your first available account in Online Banking.
** If you have asked us to alert you when your account balance goes over or under a certain level, we’ll check your account every few hours between 7am and 9.30pm and txt you when we see that your account has reached that point.
^You will still receive alerts if your Online Banking Customer ID has been locked out because you have exceeded the maximum number of login attempts.
