Online fraudsters take advantage of poor security systems. These frauds enter computers through

downloading software bundled with dangerous programs  
You can help protect yourself:  
Be cautious of email attachments and phishing scams
Viruses and scams come in many forms. Be cautious before you open or reply to any email  
scan all email attachments for viruses  
avoid opening emails from people or organisations you do not know or trust  
always delete your junk email  
Some viruses forward infected mail to entries in an address book. Therefore, you can also get an infected attachment from someone you do know. Remember, don't
open an attachment you’re unsure of - no matter the source  
click on any link in an email that asks you to respond with personal information  
click on any link in an email that asks you to pay bills or log onto a secure service  
use a preview pane within your email account - this is equivalent to opening an email automatically  
If you frequently receive suspicious or unsolicited emails, you should consider installing a spam filter or getting that service from your Internet Service Provider.
Reporting a phishing scam
Phishing is the term given to emails and scams that ask you to log on to a fake website and supply confidential details, which can include your online banking ID and password.
How to report a phishing scam
If you believe you have received aWestpac-related phishing email, report it by forwarding the email to this address:
