Features of vehicle insurance
Choose the type of insurance cover that suits you
full cover
third party cover
third party with fire and theft cover.
Full vehicle cover insurance
You should consider full cover insurance if you’d find it financially difficult to replace your private car or other vehicle.
Benefits of full vehicle insurance
your private vehicle is covered if it’s stolen or damaged in an accident, fire or natural disaster
help with travel and accommodation if your car can't be driven after an accident covered by the policy
help with cleanup of an accident scene and getting your repaired car home
cover for your liability if you injure other people, or damage someone else’s property, in an accident involving your car—up to $20 million
help with paying for a hire car for up to 14 days if your car is being repaired after an accident, or remains stolen and not recovered
up to $1,000 of cover on any car trailer you own or use
get a brand new vehicle if your new vehicle (less than one year from first registration) is written off in an accident in the first year (depending on model availability)
help with things like lost or stolen keys and locks, window and windscreen cover, and more.
Third party cover
Third party insurance
will cover your liability for damage to another person’s property you cause accidentally
won't pay for the damage to your car or vehicle.
Plus, if an uninsured driver damages your car and you can identify them and prove it was their fault, you could be covered for up to $3000 of damage to your car—with no excess.
Third party insurance—fire and theft
You can also get third party insurance with extra cover for fire and theft.
This is like normal third party insurance, but it means you are also insured if your vehicle is stolen or catches fire.
Excess for all types of vehicle cover
The excess is the amount you pay towards the claim yourself.
The minimum excess for all covers is
$300 for drivers over 25
$750 for drivers aged 21—24
$1000 for drivers under 21
$1000 for anyone who hasn't had a current full New Zealand driver's licence for the preceding 12 months.
You won’t lose your no-claims bonus or have to pay excess if
your vehicle is in an accident caused by someone else, and
you can identify the other driver and prove it was completely their fault.
Reduce your vehicle insurance premiums
Ways to reduce your vehicle insurance premiums
get a 10% discount if you live in your own home and insure it with us
