Westpac believes in employing people who are passionate about their community.
We offer every staff member the opportunity to take one full day of paid leave each year to volunteer in their community.
This programme helps employees who are already engaged in community activities. It also encourages those who want to get involved in volunteer work.
As well as supporting charities Westpac staff are personally involved with, the programme offers assistance to organisations we already sponsor.
These include the Westpac Rescue Helicopter service, the Halberg Trust and the Sir Peter Blake Trust.
Westpac staff also get involved in local events that Westpac supports, like the Nelson Arts Festival and Auckland’s Building Better Schools programme.
Sir Peter Blake Trust Care for our Coasts programme
Staff have taken a hands-on approach to support this programme, heading out of the office in teams to clean up their local beaches.
Westpac Rescue Helicopter Chopper Appeal
May is Chopper Appeal month. Many staff spend their volunteer day raising funds for the rescue helicopter service through auctions, community fashion shows and sports events.
More than 60 per cent of funding for the rescue helicopter service comes from community funding.
Round the Bays
Westpac’s association with the Halberg Trust meant we were able to help over 80 people with disabilities, their families and caregivers participate in the 2008 Round the Bays event.
