Whether you’re starting your first year or you’re buried deep in the fifth year of a double degree, the Student Pac has got all your banking essentials to help make managing your finances just that little bit easier.

What’s a Save and Win student account and how do I win?

It’s a savings account that rewards your efforts by giving you the chance to win cash while you save:

  • a chance to win monthly prizes of 1x $1000, 2x $250 and 20x $50 from a prize pool allocated only to Student Pac customers
  • the more you save, the greater your chances of winning. Every $1 of your average monthly balance on the last day of each month gives you an entry into the prize draw, as long as you make a minumim deposit in that month of $10
  • winners will be announced each month on our Student Pac Facebook page 
  • no monthly account maintenance fee and free deposits
  • interest earned on your savings each month of 0.25%
  • to encourage you not to dip into your funds, withdrawals will incur transaction fees ($1 per electronic transaction and $3 per manual transaction)

The free stuff

With Student Pac you won’t get charged for:

  • Westpac ATM transaction fees
  • Eftpos transaction fees.
  • your annual Debit MasterCard fee throughout the course of your student life
  • Westpac Online Banking transfers and bill payments on your Easy Access account
  • the first five calls with Phone Banking each month
  • your first year annual fee on your new Westpac credit card (if you apply for and receive one)
  • electronic and manual transactions with your Easy Access account
  • the establishment fee for your student overdraft (if approved)

Charges for Student Pac

You will be charged for:

  • Phone Banking: 50c per call after the first five calls per month
  • Mobile Banking and txt alerts: 25c per txt plus your mobile provider’s usual txt charges
  • using another bank’s ATM: $1 per transaction
  • setting up and amending automatic payments: $2 if you do it online or $5 if you do it over the phone or in branch
  • student overdraft facility: $3 monthly line of credit charge ++
  • unarranged overdraft: $15 per month plus debit interest ++
  • transaction fees for your Save and Win account ($1 per electronic transaction and $3 per manual transaction).

Do I qualify for Student Pac?

To reap the benefits of Student Pac you'll need to meet all the following requirements:

  • have New Zealand citizenship or residency. If you’re an international student, check out our International Student Pac here
  • be a full‐time tertiary student studying an NZQA-approved tertiary course
  • taking a course that lasts at least one semester (minimum 12 weeks)

Also, if your application is approved, you’ll need to have any income you earn paid straight into your Easy Access account.

What happens once I’ve graduated?

We’ll automatically move you to Graduate Pac when your course ends. All you need to do is let us know if your circumstances change (i.e. if you move house or your course end date changes).

Graduate Pac

Graduates (aka tertiary veterans) need something a little more when it comes to banking compared to the average student, that’s where the Graduate Pac steps in.

What’s included

  • an Easy Access account with no monthly account maintenance or transaction fees*
  • your choice of an Online Saver, Online Saver PIE, Online Bonus Saver and Online Bonus Saver PIE account
  • a Debit MasterCard or a Westpac Eftpos/ATM card
  • the chance to apply for credit of up to $2,000 that can be split between either a credit card (maximum credit card limit of $1,000) or an interest free overdraft**
  • the chance to apply for a personal loan at a discounted interest rate with up to five years to pay it back**
  • Online Banking, Mobile Banking, email and text alerts

  • the option to sign up to the Westpac KiwiSaver Scheme^

What's an Easy Access Account?

It’s a tailored account only available to students and graduates. It keeps more money in your back pocket with less money going on fees. You’ll save heaps with:

  • no monthly account maintenance fee
  • no electronic transaction fees
  • no manual transaction fees

** Save and Win Student Account Prize Draw Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the prize draw you need to make a single deposit of at least $10 (inclusive of any prize winnings) into your Save & Win student account during the month of the prize draw.

The number of chances you have to win a prize in any one draw is based on your average monthly balance as at the last day of the month. Your average monthly balance is calculated on your daily balance rounded to the nearest whole dollar. If a single deposit of at least $10 has been made during the prize draw month, for every $1 of your average monthly balance you will get one entry into the prize draw.

Prize draws for the Save & Win Student Account are only open to Student Pac customers who have a student Save & Win account and are residents of New Zealand. Westpac staff, contractors and agents, their spouses (whether named or not) and/or dependents are not eligible for the prize draws.

Customers can choose not to participate in the prize draw by notifying their local Westpac branch in writing. The exclusion will apply from the date notification is received until such time as you instruct us otherwise.

Customers who close their account during the month of the draw are not able to participate in the prize draw for that month.

Save and Win Student Account Prize Draw Terms and Conditions

Current cash prizes each month are:

  • 1 prize of $1000

  • 2 prizes of $250

  • 20 prizes of $50

Prize draws will occur monthly ('Monthly Draw'). Additional special draws may also occur from time to time as notified to customers by Westpac. The promotion period for each Monthly Draw begins on the first day of the month and ends on the last day of the month. Prizes will be drawn on the first business day of the following month.

Prizes are current as at 24 July 2014 and subject to change on notice.

You agree to Westpac using any personal information it holds about you to contact you if you are a winner. Westpac will take all reasonable steps to contact a prize winner within 30 calendar days of each montly draw. All major prize winners’ names will be published on our Student Pac Facebook page 30 calendar days after the draw. Winners may be asked to take part in any other publicity arranged by Westpac.

Winners will be verified by Westpac. Once successfully verified, cash prize winners will have their cash prize deposited into their Save & Win account within 30 days of each montgly  prize draw.

Prizes are non-transferable.

All decisions made by Westpac are final and binding on all Save & Win account holders, and no correspondence will be entered into.

Use of the Save & Win account, and participation in all associated monthly draws, is subject to Westpac’s General Terms and Conditions.

A failure or delay by Westpac in exercising any power or right shall not operate as a waiver of that power or right.

If an entrant is under the age of 18 years they acknowledge that they have their parent's permission to enter the promotion and agree that their parent or guardian may be required to sign acceptance of the terms and conditions of entry on their behalf prior to claiming any prize.

Westpac accepts no responsibility for any tax liability incurred as a result of any person participating in a prize draw.
