Tertiary Pac

What's included:

  • An Airpoints Debit MasterCard earns you Airpoints Dollars ™ on everyday spending
    • Linked to your Easy Access Account
    • With no Annual fee for the life of the Pac

A Tertiary Easy Access Account:

  • Your day to day transactional account
  • With no monthly account maintenance or electronic transaction fees

      • Note: service fees may apply
      • You will need to credit your income to your Easy Access account every month

A Westpac PayTag® 

  • For contactless purchases under $80 - attach it to your phone so you don’t need to take your wallet

    • First Westpac PayTag issued free

Note : If you're under 18 years old and wish to apply for a Debit MasterCard, a parent or guardian will need to co-sign an application form to accept the terms and conditions, in person at a Westpac branch

Optional extras, you could also apply for:

  • An Online Savings Account
  • the Westpac KiwiSaver Scheme
  • An interest free overdraft up to $2,000, with no establishment fee and a reduced monthly line of credit charge
  • If you’re over 18, an Airpoints™, Low Rate or hotpoints® credit card with credit up to $1,000, with the first annual fee waived

  • Westpac Renters’ Contents Insurance and/or Vehicle Cover

To switch to the Tertiary Pac you need to: 

  • Have New Zealand citizenship or residency. If you’re an international student, check out our International Student Pac here
  • Be a part-time or full‐time tertiary student studying at an NZQA-approved tertiary institute for at least 12 weeks, or completing a Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) approved New Zealand Apprenticeship or ‘Modern Apprenticeship'

You can be on the Tertiary Pac for the length of your study. Once you’ve finished study we’ll be in touch and move you onto the Graduate Pac. Just keep us updated if your circumstances change.

Career Starter Pac

What's included:

An Airpoints™ Debit MasterCard® or a Debit MasterCard®

  • Linked to your Electronic Account
    • With no Annual fee for the life of the Pac

A Career Starter Electronic Account:

  • Your day to day transactional account
  • With no monthly account maintenance or electronic transaction fees for the life of the Pac
    • Note: service fees may apply
    • You will need to credit your income to your Electronic account every month

A Westpac PayTag®:

To switch to the Career Starter Pac you need to:

  • Be a New Zealand resident in full-time employment (minimum 30 hours per week) who has completed secondary school in the past two years
  • Be aged between 16 and 20 years old when you sign up 

You can be on the Career Starter Pac for two years to help get you started in your working career. After two years we’ll be in touch and move you onto an Electronic Account, which means your electronic transactions will continue to be free.

What you won’t get charged for:

  • Westpac ATM transaction fees
  • EFTPOS transaction fees
  • Your Debit MasterCard® or Airpoints™ Debit MasterCard® annual account fee for the life of the Pacs 
  • Your first Westpac PayTag®
  • Westpac online banking transfers and bill payments on your Tertiary Easy Access Account or Career Starter Electronic Account
  • Setting up automatic payments on your Tertiary Easy Access Account or Career Starter Electronic Account  in online banking, in branch or over the phone, or amending automatic payments in online banking
  • The first five calls with Phone Banking each month
  • Email and text alerts you receive from Westpac
  • Your first annual fee on a new Westpac credit card (if you apply for and receive one)
  • Monthly account maintenance or electronic and manual transactions with your Tertiary Easy Access Account or Career Starter Electronic Account
  • The establishment fee for your overdraft (if you apply for one and are approved)

You will be charged for:

  • Phone Banking: 50c per call after the first five calls per month
  • Using another bank’s ATM: $1 per transaction
  • Overdraft facility (if you apply for one and are approved): $3 monthly line of credit charge 
  • Unarranged overdraft: $15 per month plus debit interest. This is charged if you go overdrawn without an approved overdraft limit
